So, first thing’s first, for those who don’t know me. My name is Alexzandria. Most people call me Chill.
I started this blog in the Summer of 2014 when I had a lot of free time on my hands due to unfortunate circumstances. My days were filled with scouring for jobs, restructuring my résumé , side hustling, family issues and wondering what my life had come to. In the process of doing that, I found myself sifting through a myriad of thoughts and emotions I had no idea how to address.
As I tried to get my professional life back on track, I slowly began to focus on the lessons I’ve learned throughout the years. I realized my strongest attributes some how tied back to Greek life. My family members, childhood mentors, favorite public figures, collegiate and post-college Greek life experiences all lead to very profound lessons that attributed to my mental, emotional and spiritual development. These meditations soon turned into scribbles turned outlines and eventually…the birth of a blog.
One of the things I practice religiously is finding time during my day to do something I absolutely love. Writing has always been my first love of expression. As a means to mitigate the stress of job hunting and family drama, I began to build the concept, theme and purpose around DP Taught Me. I posted a few articles to test the waters, played around with social media marketing and mapped out my content plan for the remainder of the year.
And then life happened.
I got my ideal job (yay). The side hustles began to pay off (Ice Cube “Yay yaaaayeee”). Somehow a romance that had started off very “Brown Sugar”ish ended in the most “Being Mary Jane” way possible. Family was still being family. And in the midst of things, DPTM fell off the map.
Most bloggers start and stop over time and eventually just give up. I never considered myself one of those people. The giving up type. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t. God kept pleasantly pestering me.
The more and more time passed, the more and more pressed I became to write. So here I am. This is my reclamation back into my next chapter.
The idea of DP Taught me was given to encourage others. Over the years, Greek life has taught me so many lessons that have served as supplements to the blessings God has bestowed upon me. I hope to use this platform as a way to share practical pearls of wisdom. My life mission is stemmed from my favorite verse 1 Timothy 4:12:
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
I aim to inspire my generation and other generations in a manner that is distinctly my own. Fortunately, Greek life has provided me a unique platform for me to reach a plethora of potential. I hope and pray DP Taught Me contributes to cultivating an army of dynamic Greek leaders that all of our Founders would be proud of.
I know that DP Taught Me is going to be more than a blog. It will be a movement. But it won’t all happen in one day. What I can say is, I’m happy to be back and I hope that you will accompany me on this journey. It’s going to be a great one. Thank you for reading.
P.S. If you’re interested in getting a preview of what’s to come, check out a few of my past blogs. If you like it, subscribe, share, help a sista out! We’re trying to start a movement folks! Gracias in advance!
